Objective:To study the expression of transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1)in different stage on experimental rat aortic calcification and to discuss the possible effects and correlation between TGF-β1 and the development of aortic calcification. Methods:Aortic calcification model rats were setup by cholecalciferol. In all the tested animals, their aortic tissues were obtained for pathological observation and immunohistochemistry staining. The expression degree of TGF-β1 and the changes of morphology in aortic tissues were measured by image analysis system. Results:Aortic calcification models were successful constructed. The expression of TGF-β1 was gradually increased in the different processes of experimental aortic calcification rats,respectively(P<0.05).There was significantly difference between the expression of TGF-β1 in the normal control group and that in the experimental aortic calcification model group at the different stage.Conclusions:TGF-β1 may play an important role in the development of aortic calcification. It can be regarded as one of the important markers to predict the severe degree and consequence of aortic calcification. Our results provide theory foundation for us to target aortic calcification through TGF-β1.
