Objective To investigate the influence of hyperglycemia on the expression and secretion of apolipoprotein M(apoM) in the rats. Methods Hyperglycemia rat models were induced by 6-hour continuous infusion of 25% glucose injection through tail veins at the speed of 2.5ml per hour by microinfusion pumps. The controls were infused with saline in the same way . The concentration of apoM in the serum was assayed by Dot-blotting and the mRNA levels of apoM in the liver were measured by Real-Time PCR. Results are expressed as means±SD. Comparisons among groups were statistically analyzed by two-tailed Mann-Whitney test. A P value less than 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results The blood glucose and insulin levels in hyperglycemia group is 3 times higher than the control group. The hepatic apoM mRNA levels were significantly decreased in hyperglycemia rats compared to the controls(P=0.0043). The serum apoM levels of hyperglycemia rats were lower than the controls, but without statistic significance(P=0.1797).Conclusion The expression and secretion of apoM is down-regulated in hyperglycemia rats.
