OBJECTIVE: To know the prevalence of hyperlipidemia and main risk factors(Dietary nutrition factors and non-factor) among some residents of middle and high ages in Chongqing.METHODS:1. Survey:Nutrition and health survey were investigated with food frequency questionnaires.Frequency and quantity of the food intake were collected from every participant in the past year. Dietary quality were evaluated by using the "Chinese residents balanced diet pagoda" of China Nutrition Society.2. Fitness: All targeted height, weight, WC and blood pressure were measured.3. Laboratory testing: The survey collected all the blood samples for determination of serum glucose and lipids, mainly determined TG,TC and HDL-C. The criteria for the diagnosis of hyperlipidemia according to the 2002 "Chinese residents nutrition and health surveys".4.Based on the data of the residents aged over 40 years from urban and rural areas in Chongqing, who participated in the citywide nutrition and health survey.Subjects were divided into groups according to the gender, age, urban and rural areas, education and job.The blood lipid levels and distribution of hyperlipidemia were studied. The factors of hyperlipidemia were selected by multifactor Logistic regression and principal component analysis.RESULTS:The average level of lipids in elderly surveyed population of Chongqing were TG 1.16±0.68mmol/L,TC 4.02±0.94mmol/L and HDL-C 1.39±0.34mmol/L. The study surveyed 976 middle-aged and elderly people there, including 225 patients with hyperlipidemia. The prevalence rate of hyperlipidemia was 23.1%.One anomaly is 190, accounting for 84.0%, 34 abnormal items, accounting for15.6%. Only one of three anomalies, accounting for 0.4%. The prevalence rate of hyperlipidemia were 22.9% and 23.4% of aged 45~59 and≥60 years in 2002. The survey by the Chongqing Municipal elderly population and the prevalence of national hyperlipidemia prevalence rate close. The prevalence rate of hyperlipidemia showed a rise trend with the increase of age, city higher than rural area, male higher than female.Vegetables, fruits, fish and shrimp, beans and dairy products were under the recommended amount and livestock and meat were higher than intake to the hyperlipidemia. The logistic regression and principal components analysis showed that main effect factors on the rate of hyperlipidemia were family history, BMI , smoking, alcohol, vegetables, fruits, meat and animal fat.CONCLUTIONS:The survey results of blood lipid levels and prevalence rate of hyperlipidemia were representative data of Chongqing elderly population. Hyperlipidemia family history,BMI, smoking, drinking and other unhealthy lifestyle, unreasonable long-term diet such as inadequate intake of vegetables, fruits, fish and shrimp, beans and dairy, excessive intake of meat and poultry, were important risk factors for patients with hyperlipidemia. Suitable health education should be proposed to improve dietary pattern and to keep ideal serum lipids status. To control the related factors synthetically was the best way to prevent and control hyperlipidemia.
