Objective Review the clinical materials of comminuted supracondylar or intercondylar humerus fractures treated with different internal fixation methods in our hospital,The purpose of this study is help to deepen the knowledge of different fixation methods for comminuted supracondylar and intercondylar humerus fractures, their applicability, correct post-operative rehabilitation. Methods 45 cases of comminuted distal humeral fractures were treated by open reduction and internal fixation with kirschner wire and screw, one plate, double plate or Y-shaped plate.32 cases were followed up.The fractures were classified by the AO classification;the function of the elbow was evaluated with modified Cassebaum rating system.Clinical data were reviewed retrospectively according to the fixation methods, elbow function and the complication. Results 32 cases were followed up,with the duration from 6 to 42 months (means,20months).10 were excellent,14 good,5 fair and 3 poor. The excellent and good rates were 75.0%.Conclusions Early operation, anatomical reduction, suitable internal fixation methods, stable fixation, early and correct rehabilitation will help improve the functional restoration. The internal fixation with kirschner wire is easy manipulating and suitable for all distal humerus fractures types, but the fixation is no rigid enough and it has more complications than other methods. One plate has limited application.Y-shaped plate and double plate can achieve rigid fixation, but they have specified applicability.
