Background: Endometrial polyps(EP) is one of common diseases in endometrium. The morbility is tend to be increased gradually in recent years. Because inhibin(INH) play an important role in generation and tumor, and some research were showed that inhibin could be found in endometrium.we want to know whether inhibin subunits express in endometrium and endometrial polyps.Objective:To detect the frequency and tissue discribution patterns of the inhibin subunits in normal endometrium and EP tissues,and to investigate the precise aetiology of EP.Methods:Normol endometrial tissues were obtained from 16 women in the proliferative phase with salpingo-infertility, 11 women in the early secretory phase and 17 women in the late secretory phase with cervical cancer. Expression of INH subunits and estrogen recptors(ER),progestogen recptors(PR) in normol endometrial tissues (n=16+11+17=44) and in EP tissues(n=30) were detected by immunohistochemistry, and the blood samples from who got salpingo-infertility and EP were tested for INH-B,FSH,E and P.Each patient had had not had any steroid drugs before 6 months of giving the tissues and samples.Results:Immunohistochemistry showed that INH subunits expressed in normal endometrial tissues and in EP tissues.The expression intensity of INH subunits strengthened step by step in different menstrual phases in normal endometrial tissues.And the expression intensity of INHα-subunit in EP tissues was significantly lower than that of the early secretory endometria(p<0.05) and that of the late secretory endometria (p<0.05). INHβA-subunit expression was significantly lower in EP tissues than in the late secretory endometrial tissues(p<0.05).Both ER and PR expressed in normal endometrial tissues and in EP tissues.And the expression of PR in EP tissues was lower than in the proliferative endometria tissues(p<0.05).The results of the blood test for INH-B,FSH,E,P were no significant differences in patients between salpingo-infertility and EP(p>0.05).Conclusions:There exists INH subunits in normal endometrial tissues and in EP tissues.The expression of INHα-,βA-subunits was significantly lower in EP tissues than in the late secretory endometrial tissues,this showed that the EP tissues was rather proliferative to secretory, and suggested INH coutributed to several aspects of endometrial physiology. PR expression in proliferative phase was too weak to react progestion.These might be involved genesis of EP.
