The extraction, purification and function of total flavones from Epimedium were investigated. Then, a health food for Epimedium was designed.Firstly, the component of Epimedium which were total flavones was recognized by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and the color reaction to aluminum or other metallic ion.Secondly, the extracted method was chose by comparing from water, ethanol and antioxidant assistant extraction, and then the optimal condition by orthogonal design was obtained as follow: adding 18 times 60% ethanol with 0.1% sodium sulfite as much as the weight of Epimedium powder in 80℃for 60min,then extracted again for 30min in the same condition. The extract was added 20 times water to wipe off for 12h and the yield was about 46.66%, which was better than the method with singular ethanol.Thirdly, study on the factors on detaching of Epemidium by polyamide, including time, pH, medium and its dosage. The sample is stayed with polyamide for 30min under the condition of pH2~5, then watered with distilled water to clear out other color things. And then TFE is washed by 60% ethanol equating to 3 times to polyamide's volume, at last, collected and checked by UV or HPLC.Fourthly, the function in anti-oxidation of TFE in vitro was measured. TFE was able to restrain the oxygen level of cell and mitochondrion of liver either spontaneously or inductively. Moreover, its effect was predominant in eliminating free radiations including·O2-,·OH and DPPH.Finally, a health food for Epimedium was designed and its function in promoting absorbing calcium and creasing Bone Mineral Density was confirmed by observing the effect on feeding rat with different food.
