Objective:1. Establish an animal model of development of cataracts following vitrectomy and the joint operation of vitrectomy and C3F8 tamponade.2. Investigate the linkage between the change of bFGF's contents and the development of the Transient PCO.Methods:Select 18 adult and pure-breed New Zealand white rabbits with their total 36 eyes as subjects to the experiment. which are assigned into three groups. Group A as Blank Control Group, with 12 eyes from 12 rabbits, which will not receice any operations. Group B as Control Group, using the other 12 eyes of the same rabbits as in group A which will be performed on vitrectomy. Group C as Experimental Group, using the 12right eyes of the 12 rabbits which will receive the joint operation of vitrectomy and C3F8d tamponade.Afterwards, observe the development of cataract of all subjects and detect their content of bFGF in aqueous humor on the following 1st, 3rd, 8th, 35th, 45th days after the operaion respectively. Results and Findings:(1) All the subjects in both Group A and Group B havn't shown any trace of cataract throughout the experiment. On the 1st day, Several subjets Of Group C began to show development of PCO, and all the subjets on the 3rd day show development of PCO and get to their peak. On the 8th day, PCO began to resolve., on the 35th day after the C3F8 subside, all the rabbit's PCO resolved. Through which we can see that the PCO are transitent. The incidence rate of PCO is significantly greater in group C than that in group A and groupB.(2) The bFGF's contents of B and C are both higher than that of C, and there have significant difference respectively.(3) The bFGF's contents of group C is always higer than that of group B. on the 1St, 3rd, 8th following day of the operation, there have significant difference (P<0.05). but On the 35th and 45th days., there have no significant differenceConclusion:(1) Establish the animal model of cataract development following the operation of vitrectomy and C3F8 tamponade successfully.(2) C3F8 potentially contribute to the cataract's development following C3F8 tamponade,. And with higher volume of C3F8 to use or longer period to last, their comes severer cataract respectively.
