The Experimental Research About Gui-Lu-Er-Xian Extraction's Effect On OVX Rats

To study the effect of Gui-Lu-Er-Xian extraction on OVX rats on bone histomorphometry and mechanisim to prevent osteoporosis.Method 42 female Wistar rats (WA/Jic, inbred line, SPF grade) were randomly divided into 4 groups: Group Sham (n=11); Group OVX (n=10); Group Herb (n=11); Group Premarin (n=10). All the rats were ovariectomied expect group Sham. Six weeks after the operation, all the rats were treated separately by saline, herb Gui-Lu-Er-Xian extraction and Premarin. Ten weeks later, all the rats were sacrificed after the bone were labeled by tetracycline-HCl and Calcein hypodemic injection. The right proximal tibia were processed by undecalcified section for quantitative bonehistomorphometry. The left femur, the 5th lumbar vertebrae were taken to do some experiment. Result Gui-Lu-Er-Xian extraction can improve some parametes of tibia histomorphometry and bone mechanism. Its therapy effect can approach Premarin. Conclusion Gui-Lu-Er-Xian extraction can reduce the losing speed of bone mass and prevent osteoporosis.
