ObjectiveTo study the value of ~1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy(~1H MRS) andIgG index in diagnosis of multiple sclerosis and correlations betweenNAA/Cr,Cho/Cr,Expanded Disability Status Score(EDSS),IgG index(IgGⅠ).MethodsMRI and ~1H MRS were carried out in 36 patients with MS(MS group) and26 age matched normal control subjects(NC group). IgG and albumin incerebrospinal fluid and blood serum in 50 MS patients were detected usingimmune rate nephelometry and IgGⅠwas calculated. MRI,~1H magneticresonance spectroscopy(~1H MRS) and IgGⅠwere carried out in 18 MS patients. The NAA/Cr and Cho/Cr ratios were compared between MS group and NCgroup. The correlation between metabolic ratios and clinical disabilitymeasured by EDSS was observed. The ratios of sex,age of onset, course ofdisease and EDSS were compared between IgGⅠpositive group and IgGⅠnegative group. The correlation between IgGⅠindex and EDSS was observed.NAA/Cr,Cho/Cr ratios were compared in 18 MS patients who were alsodetected IgGⅠindex between IgGⅠpositive group and IgGⅠnegative group.Correlations between IgGⅠand NAA/Cr,Cho/Cr were observed. ResultsThe ratios ofNAA/Cr,Cho/Cr were 1.44±0.44,1.92±0.80 in MS groupand the ratios ofNAA/Cr,Cho/Cr were 1.89±0.49,1.48±0.36 in NC group.NAA/Cr decreased in MS group. The difference between two groups wasstatistically significant (P<0.05). Cho/Cr increased significantly in MS group(P<0.05). NAA/Cr was a negative and significant correlation with EDSS in MSgroup(r=-0.503, P<0.05). No correlation was found between Cho/Cr and EDSSin MS group(r=0.14, P>0.05). The positive rate of IgGⅠwas 62%. There wasno significant difference in ratios of sex,age of onset, course of diseasebetween IgGⅠpositive group and IgGⅠnegative group(P>0.05). Thedifference in EDSS between IgGⅠpositive group and IgGⅠnegative group wassignificant. There was correlation between IgGⅠand EDSS(r=0.741, P<0.05).The ratio of NAA/Cr was decreased in IgGⅠpositive group compared with IgGⅠnegative group in the 18 MS patients. The difference between two groups wassignificant(P<0.05). There was no significant difference in ratio of Cho/Crbetween two groups(P>0.05). No correlation was found between IgGⅠandratio of NAA/Cr(r=-0.305, P>0.05). There was no correlation between IgGⅠand ratio of Cho/Cr(r=0.315, P>0.05).ConclusionsIt is helpful to diagnosis of MS and monitor the progression of diseasewhen ~1H MRS and IgGⅠwere combined with the clinical information.
