Objective To study the expression of TGF-βand TNF-a during fracture healing in cigarette smoking rats and investigate the relationship between cigarette smoking and fracture healing. Methods Animal model of fracture rats were made, 80 male wistarrats were randomly grouped into normal control, anti-smoking, short-term andlong-term smoking. Immunohistochemical technique was used to detect theexpression of TGF-βand radioimmunoassay technique was used to detect theexpression of TNF-a in blood of fracture rats.Result Compared with normal control group, the expression of TGF-βwas decreased notably in smoking group(P<0.05). But the expresion of TNF-a was increased notably in smoking group(P<0.05).Conclusion Cigarette smoking is one of disadvantage factors duringfracture healing. Cigarette smoking, decreasing the expression of TGF-βin thelocal fracture tissue of rats which reduce the formation of the bone andincreasing the expression of TNF-a in blood of fracture rats which rises theabsorption of the bone, may be one of pathogeneses of delayed union of fracture.
