Object To explore the prevalence of overweight and obesity and its influencing factors, and to explore the association between obesity and related chronic diseases in city population with medical insurance.Method We used cluster sampling method, randomly sampled 98 units from 251 enterprises, and conducted the census to all 3174 participants with medical insurance from these units. The survey included normal circumstances (age, sex, occupation, cultural, ethnic, economic conditions, etc), the prevalence of related chronic diseases (mainly included hypertension, diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, fat liver and gallbladder lithiasis and other species), medical history, treatment history, family history and lifestyle habits (diet, smoking, drinking history), mental status and physical training, etc. At the same time, we measured each informant's height, weight, blood pressure, blood lipids, blood sugar and examined his/her liver, gallbladder, kidney, lung by ultrasound and X-ray.Result The prevalence of overweight and obesity were 26.0% and 3.4% respectively. The prevalence of obesity in each age group was different significantly. The influence factors of obesity included occupation and physical activity. The prevalence of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, fat liver, gallbladder lithiasis increased with body mass index (BMI). Multifactorial logistic regression analysis showed that BMI correlated positively with hypertension and fat liver. Conclusion The prevalence of obesity was common and most of the influence factors of obesity were associated with life style, so health education may be a very important measure for obesity prevention. And the relationship between obesity and hypertension, fat liver and other chronic diseases were close. Therefore, the control of body weight is of great importance for prevention t of such chronic diseases.
