Purpose: This study is to investigate the influence of wearingglasses for myopia on accommodative and convergent oculomotor systemby determining parameters of moderate myopia in different wearingglasses condition and comparing the results to that of emmetropia.Methods: 1. 68 moderate myopia and 16 emmetropia come fromGrade 2005 and 2006 were selected and questioned. Their spectacleswere measured by vertometer and their refraction were examined byusing standard subjective optometry. Based on the spherical equivalent,subjects were classified as groups of emmetropia (+0.50D~-0.50D) andmyopia (-3.12~-5.87D). Among myopia group, it was divided into twogroups of suitable wearing glasses and unsuitable wearing glasses basedon the diopter of spectacles or continued wearing of glasses andinterrupted wearing based on status of wearing glasses.2. For the 84 students above-mentioned, manifest refraction, distantand near level phoria, distant and near level fused image gather andscatter movement, near point of accommodation, positive and negativerelative accommodation and amplitude of accommodation were measuredand gradient AC/A was calculated. And all the results were analysesedusing some statistical methods.Results: 1. As compared to groups of the suitable interruptedwearing glasses and the unsuitable continued wearing glasses, the suitable continued wearing glasses group has higher distant level phoria (DLP)(P<0.05). However, the DLP between them and emmetropia had nosignificant difference.2. The interrupted wearing glasses group has higher near levelphoria (NLP) than emmetropia and continued wearing glasses group(P<0.05).3. The lateral fusional function at distance between the emmetropiaand myopia had statistic difference (P>0.05).4. As compared to the emmetropia, the suitable wearing glassesgroup has higher negative relative accommodation (NRA)(P<0.05).5. The unsuitable interrupted wearing glasses group has lowerpositive relative accommodation (PRA) than the other groups, but thereare no statistic difference (P>0.05).6. The amplitude of accommodation (AMP) for the suitablecontinued wearing glasses group is higher than the emmetropia(P<0.01)and suitable interrupted wearing glasses group (p<0.05) and that of theunsuitable continued wearing glasses group is higher than the emmetropia(p<0.05), too.7. The gradient AC/A ratio for the interrupted wearing glasses groupwere lower than the emmetropia and continued wearing glasses group.However, it had no statistic difference between them, P>0.05.Conclusion: After moderate myopia patients wear suitable glasses and wear glasses continued, their accommodative and convergentparameters such as distant and near level phoria will normalize gradually.Thus it is beneficial for recovering the function balance ofaccommodation and convergence.
