Research On Expression Of Epithelial Membrane Protein 1 In Human Gliomas

Objective To investigate the expression of EMP1(epithelial membrane protein 1) in human gliomas and the relationship between them. Methods The expression of EMP1 mRNA and protein in normal brain cells,astrocytoma cells and other intracal tumors was detected by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) and immunohistochemical staining. Results The expression of EMP1 mRNA and protein was detected in normal brain cells, astrocytoma cells and other intracal tumors, but it was highly expressed in astrocytomas. In addition, it was increased accordingly with the advancing pathological grades. Significant difference was seen in optical density value between low grade(grade I and II)and high grade(grade III and IV)(P<0.05). Conclusion The overexpression of EMP1 is closely related to the malignant degree of astrocytoma.
