Objective: the correlative study of the expression of MMP-9, E-cd and PTEN in glioma.Methods: the expression of MMP-9, E-cd and PTEN were examined in 50 patients with glioma and 11 cases of control brain tissues by immunohistochemical assay.Results: the positive expression rate of E-cd and PTEN was 100% in control brain tissues.In gradeⅠ--ⅡandⅢ—Ⅳof glioma, the total positive expression of E-cd were 42% and 23% respectively, there was no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05),but the significant difference was found between the control and glioma group(P<0.05): the normal expression rate of PTEN was 100% in normal brain tissues. InⅠ—Ⅱgrade andⅢ—Ⅳgrade of glioma, it was 75% and 38% respectively .there was significantly difference in the pathological grade of glioma(P<0.05) and between the normal brain tissue and glioma (P<0.05). The positive express rate of MMP-9 was 14% in control group .The positive rate were 33% and 62% in gradeⅠ—ⅡandⅢ—Ⅳof glioma group respectively and there was a significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05).According to the correlation analysis there is a positive correlation between PTEN and E-cd. There is a negative correlation between E-cd and MMP-9, PTEN and MMP-9.Conclusion: E-cd,MMP-9 and PTEN play an important role in the biological behavior of glioma, and may be correlated to the behavior of aggression.According to the correlation analysisthereis a positive correlation between PTEN and E-cd. There is a negative correlation between E-cd and MMP-9, PTEN and MMP-9.
