[Objective] Explored the relationship between insulin secretion function, insulinsensitivity and the syndromes of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), In order to getthe theoretical basis of combining TCM with Western medicine treatment forMetabolic Syndrome and to get control of Metabolic Syndrome and reduce the chanceof Cardiovascular Accident, and more.[Methods] Collected the patients with metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome wasaccorded with the diagnostic criteria by chinese medical association diabetes branch. The patients must accorded with the syndromes of traditional chinese medicine(TCM)of spleen stranded by dampness and heat syndrome, deficiency of qi-yin syndrome, ofblood stasis block the meridians and collaterals syndrome. Detected the fastinginsulin(FINS), fasting C-peptide, fasting plasma glucose (FPG) of patients withmetabolic syndrome. Homaestasis model assessment(HOMA) was used to estimatedinsulin secretion function and insulin resistance (Homa-β=20×FINS/FPG-3.5;Homa-IR=FPG×FINS/22.5). FINS, FPG, fasting C-peptide, Homa-IR, Homa-β, theblood pressure, blood lipids, and BMI were reviewed. The relationship betweeninsulin secretion function, insulin sensitivity, BMI, fasting C-peptide, et al andsyndromes of TCM was analyzed. The correlation among BMI, FINS, FPG, fastingC-peptide, Homa-IR, Homa-βwas analyzed.[Results] BMI, C-reactive protein(CRP) were analyzed. There was a significantdifference of insulin sensitivity among three syndromes of TCM. Homa-IR from highto low is spleen stranded by dampness and heat syndrome>deficiency of qi-yinsyndrome>Blood stasis block the meridians and collaterals syndrome. The BMI,FINS, Homa-IR and Homa-βvalues of spleen stranded by dampness and heatsyndrome were different from that of other syndromes(P<0.05). The C-peptide valuesof spleen stranded by dampness and heat syndrome was also significantly different from that of Blood stasis block the meridians and collaterals syndrome(P<0.05).[Conclusion] Insulin secretion function and insulin sensitivity of patients withmetabolic syndrome were different among different kinds of syndromes of TCM.subjects with spleen stranded by dampness and heat syndrome were found more obese, with more serious insulin resistance, suggesting improving insulin sensitivity isimportance to the kind of spleen stranded by dampness and heat syndrome. ThePathological factors such as stranded dampness, phlegm and blood stasis took a greateffect on metabolic syndrome in humid area of South China. Thus, we can apply waysof "spend dampness", "eliminate phlegm" and "spend stasis" to treat metabolicsyndrome.
