Perimenopause and postmenopause women are tended to be obese due to the decreasing of estrogen level which increases the rate of its relevant diseases. The application of rational estrogen to perimenopause and postmenopause women may well control the related symptom which had been proved in modern medical science.The application of estrogen may increase the risk of other diseases such as the increasing morbidity of tumor on systema genitale. Therefore, the researching of effective, but no obvious side effective medicine becomes the investigative focus in recent years. Rhizoma Wenyujin Concisum, RWC is the dry rhizome of Curcuma wenyujin Y.H.Chen et C.Ling in the ginger branch Plant, the Pharmacology has . confirmed its effects in the oxidation resistance, the eliminating free radical and so on. However, the effects of Rhizoma Wenyujin Concisum on PerimenoPause and postmenopause women are not clear, and its effects on obesity on PerimenoPause and PostmenoPause women have not been reported. To simulate metabolism of female in perimenopause and postmenopause, ovariectomized(OVX) adult rat model was made in this experiment. Body weights and Lee's index were measured, and serum levels of estradiol, malondialdehyde(MDA), TNF-αwere determined in our study. The effects of drinking water extracts from Rhizoma Wenyujin Concisum on ovariectomized obese rats and their mechanisms were involved in our investigation.Twenty-six healthy adult female SD rats, weighing 219.94±1.46g, were chosen and randomly divided into three groups: sham-oPerated group (n=8), OVX (n=8) group, and OVX+RWC (n=10) group. After narcotized by ketamine (100mg/kg), the bilateral ovariectomies of each rat except sham-operated group, which operated the obese tissue—ovariectomies, were removed. In the first postoperative day, the rats in OVX+ RWC group drank water extracts from Rhizoma Wenyujin Concisum and the RWC concentration was increased gradually from 1% to 12%, which could not affect rat's drinking quantity. Fifty-five Postoperative day, all rats were fasted for 12~18 hours and body length and tail length were measured. The blood were collected from femoral artery to measure serum levels of estrogen, MDA, T-AOC, TG, TNF-αand IL-6. The data were statistically analyzed by student test (X|-±s) or ANOVA and P value less than 0.05 was considered significant. The main results were as follows:1. Compared with sham-operated group, rats in OVX group increased body weight and Lee's index, and their serum levels of Leptin, MDA,TNF-αincreased with blood-fat disorder. Serum levels of TG, LDL, HDL, TC and GOT increased and the serum level of estradiol has reduced.2. Compared with OVX group, food intake was decreased in the OVX+RWC group and its weights, Lee's index, serum levels of Leptin, MDA, TNF-αwas lower, yet T-AOC was higher, and little change in serum level of estradiol.The results indicated that drinking water extracts of Rhizoma Wenyujin Concisum can inhibit the weight gain caused by ovarietomy, reduce serum levels of MDA, and elevate anti-oxidative capacity. Those effects are presumably achieved by the effective component in Rhizoma Wenyujin Concisum, which can clean free radical and elevate anti-oxidative capacity, Press the inflammation character, increase the sensitivity of organism to TNF- alpha and suppress the appetite hyperfunction. Rhizoma Wenyujin Concisum may directly or indirectly adjust organism energy metabolism and the lipid metabolism, and cause ovariectomized adult rat's weight lose.
