Objective To study the neuroprotective of total flavonovids of hippophae phamnoides on hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy in neonatal rats. Methods 40 neonatal rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: sham operated group,HIE model group,N. S group, salivia militirrhixae group and TFH group. Of the all, of the sham operated group, after rats'skin were cut open, the left common carotid artery only were separated, but not be ligated, hypoxia and injected medicine; of the HIE model group, after rats were hypoxic and ischemic, no operation were made; of the rest groups, N.S,salivia militirrhixae and total flavonovids of hippophae phamnoides were intraperitoneally injected after the model was made. 72 hours later, 40 rats were killed at the same time. Extent of brain atrophy, ultrastructural pathological change of brain tissue and apoptosis of brain cells were analyzed. Results The number of brain cells' apoptosis and extent of brain atrophy in HIE model group were much higher than that of salivia militirrhixaegroup and total favonovids of hippophae phamnoides group (P <0. 01), Ultrastructural pathological change of brain tissue of HIE modelgroup were serious. There were no significant different between saliviamilitirrhixae group and total favonovids of hippophae phamnoides group(P>0. 05).Conclusion TFH is neuroprotective against hypoxic-ischemic brain injury neonatal rat.
