Objective To evaluate the clinical significances and therapies of the patients with coronary myocardial bridges. Methods Analyzed the incidence rate, clinical character and treatments of 92 patients with myocardial bridges diagnosed by coronary angiography from July, 2004 to June, 2006 were retrospective. Results The incidence of coronary myocardial bridges is 3.7% and males seems more likely to experience the coronary artery abnormality in our study. Myocardial bridges are found most often at the left anterior descending coronary artery (86 of 92 patients). The incidence of coronary atherosclerosis in the proximal segment of myocardial bridge is higher than that in the distal segment of myocardial bridge. There are one patient suffered from acute myocardial infarction ,16 patients with typical angina pectoris and 31cases with atypical chest pain and chest distress or palpitation in 48 isolated myocardial bridges cases .Then symptoms of severe clinical symptomatic patients were abolished after the stent was implanted into their coronary artery and angina pectoris occurs less often in other patients treated with Beta-blockers and calcium antagonists. Conclusion Coronary myocardial bridges are likely the cause of myocardial ischemia and tends to promote or accelerate atherosclerosis in the vessels proximal to it. Beta-blockers can relieve the symptoms caused by the myocardial bridges. Intracoronary stent implantation is another choice when conservative therapy isn't workable or coronary sclerostenosis in the proximal segment of myocardial bridge is severe .
