Objective: To investigate the clinical presentations, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of small bowel stromal tumors.Methods: Clinical and pathological data of 9 cases of small bowel stromal tumors from February 2000 to October 2006 were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The average age of patients was 47. The period of patients having clinical symptom before operation was from 1 month to 3 years, with 12 months as average. The most common clinical presentations were gastrointestinal bleeding(4/9) and abdominal pain(4/9). The tumor sites were 2 in duodenum, 2 in jejunum, 3 in ileum, and 2 cases in both jejunum and ileum. Among the tumors, 2 were benign, 5 in the borderline, 2 were malignant. Gastrointestinal graphy was performed in 5 cases, 2 cases were detected. Gastroscopy was performed in 4 cases, 2 cases were detected. CT was performed in 5 cases, positive findings were detected in all cases. DSA was performed in 2 cases, 1 case was diagnosed. Radioisotope scanning was performed in 3 cases, with 2 cases were detected. Immunohistochemical results were CD117(+) 67%, CD34(+) 67%. All cases were operated.Conclusions: The most common clinical presentations were gastrointestinal bleeding and abdominal pain. CT is most helpful to diagnosis. Surgical resection is the main method for pathologic diagnosis and treatment.
