Objective An analyse of the relationship between abdominal aortic calcification and lumbar disc degenerationa and maybe both risk factors. Methods We choose the patiets who consulted in our hospital and received both lumbar CT scan and lumbar MR from 2006.4 to 2007.1.According to the criteria that we choose to evaluate the abdominal aortic calcification and lumbar disc degeneration and statistics the feature of abdominal aortic calcification and lumbar disc degeneration, their relationship.Rresults ①In all 218 patients, 81 (37.1%) cases had abdominal aortic calcification.Among them, 58 (26.6%) cases were type I; 16 (7.3%) cases were type II and 7 (3.2%) cases were type III.In older(Age>50 岁) group, abdominal aortic calcification occurred more often and more severe. No statistical relationship found between sex and abdominal aortic calcification .②In younger(Age < 50 岁 ) group, there were 80 patients and 32 (40%) cases occurred discdegenenration:type IV:26(32.5%) cases; type V: 6(7.5%) cases. In contrast, In older(Age>50 岁) group, there were 138 patients and 100 (72.4%) cases occurred disc degenenration:type IV: 74(53.6%) cases; type V: 26 (18.8%) cases. There were statistical relationship between two groups, and the older group had more severe lumbar disc degeneration. No statistical relationship found between sex and lumbar disc degeneration.③Abdominal aortic calcification correlate with lumbar disc degeneration. It was more predominant in the younger male group, but no relationshio in the younger female group.④Abdominal aortic calcification mostly occurred at L4-5(38,46.9%),L5-S1(18,22.2%),L3-4(14,17.3%),L1-2(7,8.6%), L2-3(4,4.9%) were the least.Conclution Age≥50 岁 is a risk factor of both abdominal aortic calcification and lumbar disc degeneration. When older, the severity of both two were much more higer. abdominal aortic calcification correlate with lumbar disc degeneration. It was more predominant in the younger male group. Abdominal aortic calcification mostly occurred at L4-5 and L5-S1.
