Objective: To investigate the effect of different cortical bone thickness on stress distribution of implant-bone interface, thus to provide reference in clinics.Method:First, construct the three-dimensional finite element models of edentulous mandible with different thickness of conical bone and the stress distributions in the implant—bone interface were investigated under both axial and oblique loading.Second, three-dimension finite element analysis method was used to analyze. Third,a force load of 150g was applied mesio-distally on the implant embedded in three jaw models with three different cortical bone thickness , 0.5mm , 1.Omm and 2.0mm respectively. Results: The results of this study indicated that the relationship between the cortical thickness of mandible and stress distribution in implant—bone interface was negative, the greater thickness of conical bone, the less was the stress concentration. The thickness of cortical bone is inversely proportional to the displacement of interface bone. Conclusion:In certain range of thickness, the thinner the cortical bone around the implant neck , the greater the stress on the bone interface. However, when the thickness of cortical bone exceeds some extent, the stress on bone interface does not decrease with the increasing of cortical bone thickness.
