Object To find out the MRI and types of pituitary hypoplasia and study correlationg of MRI and homone level and clinical feathers between different types of pituitary hypoplasia.Method Collection of growth retardation patients within 2002-2006, 46 pituitary hypoplasia patients diagnosed by MRI, age from 5y-18y, average 10.2y, male 36, female 10. According to MRI, 46 patients were divided into tow groupA and groupB. GroupA: Simple antierior pituitary hypoplasia(height of antierior pituitary short than that of the same age and gender people ), total 36, male 26,female 10; GroupB: Pituitary stalk interruption syndrome (PSIS), interrupted pituitary stalk and bloked at infundibular stem, tltal 10,all male. Measurement method: pituitary width measured on coronal T1-weighted image, pituitary height measured on sagittal T1-weighted image. Everyone's data measured three times and then obtain its average. Every patient detected and recorded related hormone level: growth hormone, GH, testosterone, To, estradiol, E2 , follicle-stimulating hormone, FSH, luteotrophic hormone, LH. Nomal value of pituitary refer to Lin guang-wu ( MRI study of normal pituitary glands in stage of puberty ). Relatd hormone level: GH: 10ng/ml; FSH: female 2.5-10.2IU/L, male 1.4-18.1 IU/L; LH: female 1.9-12.5 IU/L, male 1.5-34.6 IU/L; E2: female 20-400 IU/L, male <80 IU/L; To: male 241-827 IU/L, female 14-76 IU/L.Results1. Measurements of width and height of pituitary, related hormone level, body height.Group A: 36, male 26, female 10. height of anterior-pituitary gland 2.35±1.14mm; width of pituitary gland 10.78±3.25mm; peak amplitude of GH (ng/ml) 2.69±2.43; E2 female (pg/ml) 33.63±31.21, male 16.33±12.00; To male (ng/dl)12.19±13.85, female 16.82±34.58; FSH (IU/L) male 1.34±1.11, female 34.93±47.54; LH (IU/L) male 0.20±0.20, female 11.03±13.78; body height cml22.70±13.28.Group B: 10, all male, height of anterior-pituitary gland 2.30±1.34mm; width of pituitary gland 8.60±3.20mm; peak amplitude of GH (ng/ml) 2.05±0.90; E2 (pg/ml) 19.35±24.03; To (ng/dl) 92.52±215.69, FSH (IU/L) 1.16±1.14, LH (IU/L) 0.34±0.76; body height cm 130.50±17.56.Group A + Group B: height of anterior-pituitary gland mm2.50±1.31; width of pituitary gland mm9.49±3.34; peak amplitude of GH (ng/ml) 2.49±2.08; E2 female (pg/ml) female (pg/ml)33.63±31.21, male 17.27±15.88; To male (ng/dl)46.29±142.82, female 16.82±34.58; FSH (IU/L) male 1.27±1.10, female 34.93±47.54; LH (IU/L) male 0.26±0.51, female 11.03±13.78; body height cm 124.50±14.33.2. The relationship between width and height of pituitary and hormone level:Group A and normal value: analysis of width and height of pituitary between pituitary hypoplasia and normal; width and height of pituitary of group A shorter than normal, p<0.05; analysis of peak amplitude of GH, E2, To, FSH, LH between pituitary hypoplasia and normal, peak amplitude of GH, E2 (female) , To(male), LH (male) level of group A lower than normal, p<0.05; E2 (male), To(female, LH (female) , FSH level of group A have no difference between pituitary hypoplasia and normal, there's no correlation between height of pituitary and peak amplitude of GH , p>0.05; analysis of gender formulation of group A, marked gender tendency, male more than female, p<0.05.Group B and normal value: analysis of width and height of pituitary between PSIS and normal; width and height of pituitary of group B shorter than normal, p<0.05; analysis of peak amplitude of GHn E2, To, FSH, LH between pituitary hypoplasia and normal, peak amplitude of GH,To, LH (male) level of PSIS lower than normal, p<0.05; E2, LH (female), FSH level of group B have no difference between PSIS and normal, p>0.05; there's no correlation between height of pituitary and peak amplitude of GH , p>0.05; analysis of gender formulation of group B, marked gender tendency, male more than female, p<0.05. Group A + Group B and normal value: width and height of pituitary shorter than normal, p<0.05; analysis of peak amplitude of GH,E2,To,FSH,LH between pituitary hypoplasia and normal, peak amplitude of GH, E2 (female, To(male), LH(male) level of group A lower than normal, p<0.05; E2 (male), To(female, LH (female) , FSH level of group A have no marked differences between pituitary hypoplasia and normal, there's no correlation between height of pituitary and peak amplitude of GH , p>0.05; analysis of gender formulation of group A, marked gender tendency, male more than female, p<0.05.Analysis of group A and group B: width and height of pituitary, hormone level between group A and group B have no marked differences, p>0.05; analysis of gender formulation between group A and group B have no marked differences, p>0.05; analysis of proportion of MPHD between group A and group B have marked differences, p<0.05.Conclusion1. Width and height of pituitary hypoplasia shorter than normal; peak amplitude of GH, E2 (female), To(male), LH (male) level lower than normal, E2 (male), To(female), LH (female) , FSH level have no differences between pituitary hypoplasia and normal.2. Width and height of pituitary and body height between simple anterior-pituitary gland hypoplasia and PSIS have no marked differences; but proportion of MPHD between two groups have marked differences, more frequently in PSIS.3. There's no correlation between height of pituitary and peak amplitude of GH.4. Simple anterior-pituitary gland hypoplasia and PSIS both have marked gender tendency, obviously in PSIS.
