Pulse diagnosis is the essence of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and that has been guiding the clinical diagnosis availably in the Chinese medicine of several thousand years, we learn the history and accumulate abundant experience. Because of the information fuzzy, the indefinite quantity, the subjectivity, the Chinese medicine development is limited. At present, the one-dimensional undulation signal is given just with all of the pulse diagnosis equipment, which is insufficient to reflect comprehensively in the Chinese medicine pulse.In order to obtain the whole and objective pulse information, a new method of pulse acquisition is presented — imaging of pulse tactile signals. The multidimensional, dynamical, overall pulse information were collected by a high speed, high resolution camera. Studying the related arithmetic of obtaining the mobile information by using the pulse time-varying images, we could acquire the multidimensional pulse information.First, we explained the structure of the visualized arterial pulse detector. The detector can work steadily and the pressure can be adjusted really-time. The core part of the system is a tactile detector with a soft film and appropriate pressure inside. The film consists of two-double material, the outer layer is soft textile, the interior is latex film that include steady property, and we painted the inside film grid pattern. This design provides convenience and necessary restrictive condition for image processing.Base on the analysis of the structure of detector with a soft dual-layer composite film, the principle of the measurement is modeled, and the feasibility of multidimensional characteristic information extraction of pulse wave is discussed. The pulse information such as shapes, frequency, rhythm and width can be gained by using model analysis in theory.Then, image preprocessing is made on acquired pulse image, including histogram modification, image filter, image sharpen etc., and the principle of canny edge detector have been studied detailed, and the explicit steps are presented, and the arithmetic of close edge and fill range used in the article are particularized.Finally, using image processing technology, such as image correlation, centerrhythm and width can be detected from the grid images. The outcome of processing is consistent with the model analysis.The results show that by using the system, the multidimensional characteristic pulse information can be effectively detected, which provides a new approach to detect and express the pulse information.
