Hepatic fibrosis is the common pathological changes of the chronic liver disease which can be induced by many reasons,it is the intermediate stage which can leads to hepatic cirrhosis or even hepatoma.China is the country with high ratio of chronic liver disease, especially the chronic type B hepatitis. It is said by the World Health Organization that up to now there are about 350 million infected person,75% of them are in Asia-Pacific region. Our nation also has the high infection rate, with detection rate reaching to 9.75 %. Alcohol is the main reason in Western European countries. Along with the improving of living standard, the alcohol induced fibrosis is increased in our country, too. Some studies shows that hepatic fibrosis can be reversed at the early stage, but if it developed,it can become cirrhosis or even hepatoma. It is very hard to reverse at that stage. Although some western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine are now be used in fibrosis, standard clinicalstudy are scarce and the curative effect is not very good. Furthermore, the side effect is very big and the expense is very high. So, researchers of domestic and abroad are all endeavouring to find a good medcine which is eutherapeutic and cheap. The traditional Chinese medicine is a special treasure of our country. Making full use of our treasure to manufacture the medicine which can prevent and cure hepatic fibrosis is a kind of job which is meaningful. In view of this reason,my tutor and other teachers study and summarize at clinically, they manufacture a new anti- fibrosis medcine-yuzhangdan. They found that it has good effect in protecting the hepatocyte and delaying or even reversing the process of fibrosis. To study the effect and mechanism more clearly and scientificly, SD rats were randomly allocated into a normal control group,a model group and yuzhangdan large and small dose groups. The model was made by injection subcutaneously with 40% CCL4-olive oil every three days and with high fat diet for 8 weeks. At the same time of modelling, every group was lavaged with isotonic saline solution and corresponding medcine. Liver tissues and blood serum were obtained at the end of 8 weeks. Liver tissues were used for histological examination and immunocytochemistry and image-analysis system. Blood serum were used for measuring the content of ALT, AST, total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG) and glutathione. We found that Yuzhangdan has an inhibitive effect onexperimental hepatic fibrogenesis. The mechanisms of its effects might possibly be associated with its antioxdant, decreasing the expression of TGF-β1 and α-SMA.Yuzhangdan also has the effect of lowering the transaminase and blood-fat.It has the hepatoprotective effect.
