| Purpose: To determine the ciliary body thickness and other biometric findings in eyes with primary Angel-closure Glaucoma and primary Angle-closure.Subjects and methods: Twenty —eight otherwise normal eyes with Primary Angel-closure Glaucoma or Primary Angel-closure in 28 patients and normal control eyes with open angles in 28 age-matched and sex-matched patients. Ultrasound biomicroscopy was performed to massure anterior chamber depth , angle open distance, angle aperture and ciliary body thickness at sites 1mm, 2mm, and 3mm posterior to the scleral spur ( position 1, 2 and 3 , respectively).Result: Compared with normal control eyes, the Primary Angel-closure eyes showed a shallower anterior chamber ( 1.9±0.2mm vs. 2.68±0.4mm, P < 0.01), a thinner ciliary body ( positionl: 0.5±0.07mm vs. 0.61±0.1mm, P<0.01; position2: 0.31±0.04mm vs. 0.36±0.08mm, P <0.05 ) , a shorter angle-closure distance (AOD500: 0.08±0.06mm vs. 0.27±0.13mm, P<0.01; AOD750: 0.09±0.07mm vs. 0.39±0.2mm, P< 0.01 ), and a narrower angle aperture (AA500 : 9.2±6.46 ° vs. 25.78±10.88°, P<0.01; AA750: 6.98±5.34° vs. 25.08±10.54°, P< 0.01 ) . Anterior chamber depth was significantly correlated with ciliary body thickness at position 1. ( R=0.614 , P < 0.01 ), and position 2 ( R = 0.502, P < 0.05).Compared with normal control eyes, the Angel-closure Glaucoma eyes also showed a shallower anterior chamber( 1.77±0.17 mm vs. 2.75±0.41mm, P<0.01 ), a thinner ciliary body (position1: 0.5±0.05 mm vs. 0.61±0.09mm , P < 0.01), a shorter angle-closure distance (AOD500: 0.04±0.06 mm vs. 0.29±0.15mm, P<0.01; AOD750: 0.06±0.67mm vs. 0.42±0.22mm, P<0.01 ), and a narrower angle aperture (AA500: 4.2±6.87° vs. 26.8±11.86° , P<0.01; AA750: 6.98±5.34° vs. 25.08±10.54° , P<0.01). Anterior chamber depth was significantly correlated with ciliary body thickness at position 1 ( R = 0.766, P < 0.01).Conclusion: Thinning of the ciliary body may be one of the important factors associated with the anterior location of the lens, the increased lens thickness, and the decreased anterior chamber depth in eyes with primary angle-closure glaucoma. |
