| Objective: To investigate the clinical manifestation , pathological characteristics and prognosis of sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma (SRCC), for the improvement of clinical cognition and management. Methods: 14 cases were confirmed to be pure SRCC or SRCC composite of recognised types pathologically during 1/2004 to 3/2006 at the first affiliated hospital of Zhejiang University: 5 were pure SRCC, 3 clear cell RCC with SRCC, 3 collecting duct carcinoma with SRCC, 1 was papillary renal cell carcinoma with SRCC, 1 chromophobe renal cell carcinoma with SRCC and 1 poorly differentiated transtitional cell carcinoma with squamous cell carcinoma and SRCC. All the cases' history was reviewed well. Results: All cases discharged smoothly post-operation and 12 were tracked 6-24 months, 12 months in average. 6 died on the exactly 20 days, 33 days, 3 months, 4 months, 6 months and 13 months after operation. 6 other patients: 2 were tumor-free survival, 2 were recurrent at nephridial pit, 1 had metabasis at liver, and 1 had lung and osseous metastasis. Conclusion: Sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma is a higher-degree malignant tumor. Radical nephrectomy is the main treatment. Immunotherapy or chemotherapy may prolong patient survival time. The prognosis has positive correlation with pathology type and TNM staging. |
