Background : The peripheral capillary extracellular matrix (extracellular matrix, ECM) refers to the cell membrane or uncertainties exist in the form of extracellular space ingredients, including of protein and non-protein components, for example tpyeⅣcollagen, laminin, fibronection, heparin sulfate. The ECM, when blood molecular substances entering the brain endothelial cells, which palys a molecular sieve charge barriers and the role of cell life form-environment, with support, connectivity, nutrition, defense, etc. Matrix metalloproteinases (Matrix Metalloproteinase) can degraded extracellular matrix, and concern many cardiovascular diseases such as intracranial aneurysms, abdominal aortic aneurysm and tumor metastasis-related. The MMP-9 (Matrix Metal oproteinase-9) which can express in serum and degraded collagen concerns intracranial aneurysm formation and rupture. Objective:Analyzing the serum levels of MMP-9 of aneurysm patients and the normal control group, to explore the changes of serum Matrix Metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) concentration and its clinical value as a sign of early diagnosis in patient with intracranial aneurysm.Method:Serum levels of MMP-9 have been detected in 32 patients with intracranial aneurysm falling ill in 72h, 1 week and after operation separately. The 12 patient whose aneurysm did not corrupt, their serum was collected before and after operation. The controls just collect serum once. All the results were got using ELISA Detection. Results : The comparison of serum MMP-9 concentration of the different group. (1) Aneurysm rupture Group comparing to the controls, the serum MMP-9 concentration was higher than the controls: the third dayafter the aneurysm rupture(715±128,189±66),P=0.03.a week after the rupture(647±126,189±66),P=0.034.a week after operation (380±116,189±66),P=0.008. (2) The aneurysm not rupture Group comparing to the controls, the serum MMP-9 concentration was likewise higher than the controls: before operation(689±120,189±66) , P = 0.014.after operation (390±125,189±66),P=0.002. (3)the comparison of aneurysm rupture Group P<0.05. (4)The serum MMP-9 concentration decreased in the group whose aneurysm did not rupture. (689±120,390±125),P=0.009. (5) the aneurysm rupture Group comparing to the group whose aneurysm did not rupture before operation. the third day: (715±128,689±120),P=0.529, rupture after a week (647±126,689±120),P=0.519.Conclusions : Serum MMP-9 was higher in intracranial aneurysm patient compared to the controls, and it was lower than the concentration before operation. It is not clear that if it concern with the occlusion or embolism of intracranial aneurysm capsule wall. It was indicated that MMP-9 concentration, in some degree, may be a reference for diagnosis of intracranial aneurysm.
