Objective: ① To observe the effect of autotraction on lumbar intervertebral space in normal persons from different angles; ② To exlpore the effect of autotraction on blood pressure and pulse in normal persons from different angles and determine the safety of autotraction therapy. Methods: Twenty healthy male students were chosen from a nursing school. Before autotraction L-Spine PA & LAT, blood pressure (BP) and pulse was taken for each participant. We adjusted the self-designed traction bed to horizontal level and placed the participant in a prone position, then immobilized the thoracic traction harness under the xiphoid along the inferior 8th to 10th costal margin. The thoracic harness was hung to the trapeze bar overhead by two suspensories. Then the traction bed was tilted up to 60°slowly. The participant was hanged off the bed and autotractioned by gravity. BP and pulse were taken again upon 10 minutes. The traction lasted 20 minutes. L-Spine LAT was taken immediately after the traction finished. The procedure was repeated 5 days later with the same method, just tilting the traction bed to 90°. The three L-Spine PA & LAT taken before traction, after traction with 60°and 90°were measured by vernier caliper with the precision of 0.02 mm to observe the indicators including the lumbar intervertebral space of L1~2, L2-3, L3-4, L4-5, L5-S1 The posterior, middle and anterior widths of each lumbar intervertebral space were measured individually. SPSS10.0 was applied to analyze the data, to compare the measurement results taken before traction, after traction with 60°and 90°and explore the effectiveness of autotraction from different angles...
