Objective: To investigate the zeitgeber property of electroacupuncture and the effect of electroacupuncture on intergeniculate leaflet by exploring the effect of electroacupuncture on the expression of gamma-amino butyric acid(GABA), neuropeptide Y(NPY) and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in the intergeniculate leaflet (IGL) of the golden hamster.Methods: A total of 20 male Syrian golden hamsters were dividedrandomly into electroacupuncture group (A), 8-OH-DPAT group (B) , photic stimuli group (C) and seizing control group (D), 5 hamsters for each group. All animals moved freely following domestication. At circadian time 9:00 (CT9) on the third day of constant darkness, animals were treated with electroacupuncture, administration of 8-OH-DPAT, photic stimuli, and seizing, respectively. At 2 hours following the treatment, the absorbance (A) values of expression of GABA, NPY and nNOS in the IGL of golden hamsters were observed by using immunohistochemistry and image analysis method. All data were analysed by using SPSS 11.5 software.
