Objective To assess the effect, safety, and economics of percutaneous ethanol injectiontherapy on small hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods Computerized retrieve following electronic database:Chinese Bio-Medicine database,Cochrane library,MEDLINE,EMBASE .Appraised randomized control trials and non randomized control trials, abstracted data and synthesized with RevMan 4.2 for Meta-analysis.Results Seven hundred and eighty five titles were found, six study were included. We aggregate the data about survival of PEI and HR which was associated with a risk ratio. The RR of 1-year survival was 1.03, 95%C1 [0.97, 1.09] (p=0.39). The RR of 3-year survival was 0.97, 95%C1 [0.87, 1.09] (p=0.61).The RR of 5-year survival was 0.92, 95%C1 [0.61, 1.38] (p=0.67). The RR of 5-year recurrence was 1.24, 95%C1 [1.04, 1.48] (p=0.02).The averaged calculated cost per patient during follow-up was lower in the PEI group than in the HR group. The complications of two group patient was similar.
