To examine the relationship between COX-2 and P-gp in malignant pleaural mesothelioma (MPM) and to investigate the clinical significant of them. Methods: We determine the level of expression of protein of COX-2 and P-gp in malignant pleaural mesothelioma by immunohisochemical compared. Results: COX-2 positive expression rate was 70%(14/20) and P-gp positive expressive rate was 100% (20/20) ; its expression in malignant pleaural mesothelioma was significantly higher than others. While it has no relationship with age, sex and clinical stage of the patients(p>0.05). There was a closely positive correlation between expression of COX-2 and P-gp (coefficient correlation r=0.76,p<0.01).Conclusion: COX-2 and P-gp were upregulated in malignant pleaural mesothelioma tissues. There was a relationship between COX-2 and P-gp.COX-2 may play a role in the regulation of multidrug-resistance(MDR) in malignant pleaural mesothelioma through interfering in the P-glycoprotein expression.
