Tumor generation and development is the fighting results between tumor cells and host immune system. In the usual condition, host immune system can surveil and clean mutant cells in the body. However, the fact is tumor cells can restrain and escape this surveillance with many ways including immune balance aberrance. All these ways get a common result, i.e., tumor antigens can not be presented to immune effector cells efficiently, so effector cells have no means to fully execute surveillance and cleaning functions.IL-2 and GM-CSF are usually used in anti-tumor immune therapy. IL-2 maintains T cells to proliferate and enhance their activation, so plays a critical role in local tumor repulsion. GM-CSF can induce many hemapoietic cells, especially dendritic cells and monocyte-macrophage, to proliferate and differentiate, enhance the antigen presentation in host, so induce systemic antitumor immune effects.
