Objective: In order to offer assistance for clinical antimicrobial therapy and evaluate the possibility of Streptococcus pneumoniae (SP) vaccine application in Chongqing , this study was designed to investigate the antimicrobial resistance and serotypes of SP clinic isolates among children and determine mechanisms of macrolide resistant SP .Methods: Totally 964 SP strains were isolated from Children's Hospital of Chongqing University of Medical Sciences from 2002 to July 2005. The antimicrobial resistanc of SP were analyzed retrospectively. With genome PCR and Quellung reaction, the genes mediating macrolide resistant SP and preliminary serotyping of SP clinic isolates were detected respectively. Results: 91.8%,90.0% and 61.0% of SP clinic isolates were resistant to Erythromycin,Azithromycin and Penicillin respectively. The majority of SP were susceptible to Ofloxacin,Rifampicin and Vancomycin. Multidrug resistance was very common and accounted for 93.2% of all. Mechanisms of 30 SP clinic isolates resistant to macrolide were analyzed. The macrolide...
