Objective Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory process mostly caused by infection by gram-negative bacterium harboring next to the tooth surface. The lipopoly saccharide of such bacterium induced the production of cytokines by inflammatory cells. Periodontal infection which serve as reservoirs for Gram-negative anaerobic organisms, lipopolysaccharide (LPS, endotoxin), and inflammatory mediaters including IL-1β and TNF-α ,may pose a potential threat to mother and herself and the fetal-placental unit.pregnancy Induced hypertension syndrome(PIH) is a serious pregnancy complication for mothers and fetus' healthy, its etiology remains unclear. Higher degree of THF-α,IL-1β is said to contribute to its happen, it has been reported that a singnificantly higher incidence of PIH in gravid women withperiodontal disease than without.Periodontal and serologic examinations of women with PIH may, therefore, provide detail information for understanding the pathomechanisms of PIH.However , no studies have been carried out to date in this specific group of pregnant women. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the associations of periodontal conditions,PIH in relation to serum cytokine levels.
