Low level laser commonly refers to those whose laser device's output power density≤1J/cm~2,output power≤50mW and temperature elevation in tissue is less than 0.1~0.5°C. He-Ne laser device is the earliest and most commonly used one, and its wave length (632.8nm) is within the scope of visible light(400nm~760nm). Even the lowest power of visible laser can make the eyes unwell. Especially, retina can be easily damaged when high power laser is applied to treat the eye diseases, however, little attention is paid to it and the He-Ne laser's irreversible retina injury is seldom reported. Thus, what is of great importance to the clinical and experimental research is to explore the mechanism of injury after the low level laser exposure. This study is proposed to observe the bioeffects and explore the mechanism of He-Ne laser on rat eyes, and further investigate the glutamate receptor and its blockers(MK-801). They provide academic and experimental evidences for the medical laser prevention and therapy.Sixty healthy adult Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups: normal control, injury control and MK-801 -treated group. After laser exposure, the treated group received an intramuscular injection of MK-801 at a dose of 2mg/kg body weight. The control group received intramuscular injection of saline in equal volume. The animals were killed at different intervals after laser exposure and the retinas were...
