ObjectiveTo investigate the relationship between adiponectin gene polymorphism and obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).MethodsThe single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) at positions 45 and 276 in adiponectin gene were determined by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphisms (PCR-RFLP) assay in 118 un-related persons of Han nationality in Nanjing district, in whom were 78 OSAHS patients (OSAHS group) and 40 normal controls (control group).ResultsNo evidence of a direct association was found between OSAHS and adiponectin gene of SNP at positions 45 and 276 (P =0.609 and P =0.858, respectively) . However, compared with those OSAHS patients with G/T+ T/T genotype at position 276, the OSAHS patients with G/G genotype showed a higher neck circumference [(40.9±2.3)cm vs.(39.6±2.3)cm; P< 0.05] , a longer longest apnea time [(71.4±21.6)s vs.(61.7±19.6)s; P < 0.05], a higher level of blood cholesterol [(4.28±0.94)mmol/L vs.(3.88±0.73) mmol/L ; P <0.05] and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol[(3.17±0.79) mmol/L vs.(2.82±0.69)mmol/L; P <0.05]. Comparison between TT and GT+ GG at positions 45 as well as between GG and TG+TT at positions 276 in adiponectin gene of OSAHS patients showed that there was no significant difference in body mass index (BMI), waist hip rate (WHR), morning blood...
