[Objective] To evaluate the effect of short-term intensive insulin treatment on plasma glucose, beta-cell function and long-term plasma glucose control in ewly diagnosed Type 2 diabetic patients with severe hyperglycemia. [Mathods] Thirty-four newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetic patients with FPG>11.1mmol/L and/or 2hPG>14.0mmol/L were divided at random into two groups(treated group controlled group), by analyzing the result between before and after the treatment, between the two groups, to evaluate the change of FPG and 2hPG before and after the 2 weeks intensive insulin treatment and the change of first-phase insulin secretion in intravenous glucose tolerance test(IVGTT),besides, treated group was followed up for an average of 6 months, to evaluate the effect of short-term intensive insulin treatment on iong-term plasma glucose control. [Results] Two weeks after the treatment, the excellent control of FPG and 2hPG in the two groups were achieved,in the treated group,FPG was decreased from 13.74±2.53mmol/L to 5.91±0.74mmol/L,2hPG was decreased from 21.09±3.42mmol/L to 7.03±1.58mmol/L;In controlled group,FPG was decreased from 14.43±2.55mmol/L to 6.47±0.79mmol/L,2hPG was decreased from 22.29±3.97mmol/L to 8.29±1.51mmol/L.After the treatment, beta-cell function was dramatically improved especially in the treated group:the mean area under the curve(AUC) of insulin, the increment of the insulin peak(△INS), the ratio of △INS/△G and HomaB were significantly increased, but in controlled group , the changes are not so efficient.Besides, HomaA was also significantly decreased in the two groups.During the average of 6 months, fourteen patients in the treated group were followed up with mean HbA1C of 4.89±0.57%, FPD of 5.71±0.88mmol/L, 2hPG(OGTT) of 7.03±1.58mmol/L without medication. [Conclusion] The excellent glycemic control and improvement of beta-cell function can be induced, the insulin resistance can be decreased by short-term intensive insulin treatment(multiple insulin injection) in ewly diagnosed Type 2 diabetic...
