Atherosclerosis is a kind of diseases that do harm to human health seriously. There is no final conclusion about the pathogenesis of the disease, many factors that are closely related to atherosclerosis, however, have been found out. Although these factors are important to explain the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, the phenomena that the atherosclerosis is more likely to be found in the local positions around the bifurcations and curves in blood vessels can't be explained clearly. There were many researches that indicated the blood flow kinetics in the local positions had changed obviously. These phenomena, however, can be observed in the healthy persons. All these results indicate that atherosclerosis would be caused by the local change of the blood flow kinetics and other factors together. Based on the results we have obtained, the phenomena of lipoprotein concentration polarization can be observed in the blood vessels, and there is an obvious relationship between the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and the concentration of low density lipoprotein. The effect of the low density lipoprotein in the local pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, however, remains unclearly. In order to investigate the characteristics of lipoprotein concentration polarization in blood vessels and the effects of low density lipoprotein in local blood vessels, we analyzed the formation characteristics of lipoprotein concentration polarization and related factors. At the same time, we investigated the effects of low density lipoprotein concentration polarization on the viscoelastical properties and adhesion mechanical properties of endothelial cells in details. In addition, we investigated the migration properties of endothelial cells treated by low density lipoprotein under shear stresses. The main works and results, conclusions in this paper are reviewed as follows:1. The low density lipoprotein concentration polarization was observed in a bypass bifurcation model and a symmetrical bifurcation model of blood vessels obviously, and the positions of high lipid concentration were around the bifurcations. In these positions, blood pressures decreased drastically, and the velocities of flows and shear stresses changed from high values to low values. The low density lipoprotein concentrations in local positions increased drastically with the increase of velocities of flows. The increased percentages of local low density lipoprotein concentrations did not change obviously with the low density lipoprotein concentrations increased in blood, and the blood flows reversed.
