Background and ObjectivesHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the malignant tumors which have a high incidence and mortality rate in the countries throughout the world. The therapies for HCC have been under constant study. The current therapy for HCC surgery is one of the major methods and has a high reoccurrence rate postoperation. The current studies have confirmed that the unblalance of apoptosis and proliferation and angiogenesis correlated with the origin and development of tumor.Survivin is a new member of inhibitor of apoptosis proteins (IAP) family. Survivin is found to express mainly in the developing embryonic tissues and the common human malignant tumor tissues, but not in the adult differentiated tissues. Survivin, a molecule for the interface between apoptosis and cell cycle, is expressed in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle in a cycle-regulated manner. Association with microtubules of mitotic spindle regulates cell mitosis. Survivin binds the terminal effector protease caspase-3 and caspase-7 to inhibit cell apoptosis. Survivin's selective expression in tissues and its...
