Aim: To investigate the possible relationship between the activity levels of MMP—2. —9 and the clincopathological parameters and To detect the putative effects of CEF regimen Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy on activity levels of two enzymes in the plasmas of patients with breast caner.METHODS: The activity levels of MMP—2, — 9in cancer plasmas were determined by densitometric scan of enzymograms.RESULTS: The activity levels of both MMP—2 and MMP-9 in breast cancer patients were significantly higher than those in control(P<0. 01). The elevated activity levels of the enzymeswere correlated with c—erbB—2 over expression (P <0. 05) .The CEF regimen Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy may inhibit the activity of matrix metalloproteinase—2,-9 in breast cancer plasmas. CONCLUSION: MMP-2, -9 in the plasmas may play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and they may serve as predictors of clinical response to CEF chemotherapy and useful tumor molecules in predicting tumor invasion, metastasis and prognosis.
