Estrogen and its derivatives are widely used in the treatment of menopausal syndrome, advanced breast cancer, prostatic cancer, in the prevention of senile dementia, cardio-vascular diseases, osteoporosis, and used for cosmetology and fitness purpose. But estrogen has the potential to induce and promote the proliferation, invasion and metastasis of tumour cells. Estrogen receptor(ER) belongs to the steroid nuclear receptor family and has highly affinity to estrogen. There are two types of ER : ERα and ERβ. The ratio of ERα to ERβ determines cell's responses to estrogen and antiestrogens. Some studies have shown the ratio of ERα to ERβ is concerned with the occurrence and metastatic potential of some tumours. Studies about ER have be done in sexual hormone targeted organs and tissues, such as breast and uterus, and tumors can be classified into estrogen-depended or -independed by whether containing ER, thus ER detection is very important for judging the effectiveness of endocrine therapy and for prognosis. ER also relates to tumour histological grading and malignant degree.Besides in target organs, people have detected different ER...
