Objective:To analyze the risk factors which affected the prognosis of nonsmall cell lung carcinoma(NSCLC).To assess in 126 patients with resected NSCLC the prevalence of blood vessel invasion according to stage, as well as the prognostic value for disease free and overall survival. Methods:Between March 1, 1996 and March 1, 2001, 1996 patients with histologic evidence of NSCLC who were referred to our department were enrolled in this study after pulmonary resection and lymph node dissection. Procedures at the time of initial surgery were the same for all patients, and none of the patients received pre-operative chemotherapy or preoperative thoracic radiation. Pretreatment evaluation included a physical examination, fiberoptic bronchoscopy, chest radiography, computed tomographic scans of the chest and abdomen ultrasonic.A retrospective study of 1996 resected non small cell lung cancer patients was performed to assess the prognostic values of the main clinical, pathological characteristics.Associations among variables were tested by the chi-square test; prognostic values on time-failure data were analyzed by the log-rank test .Multivariant risk factors were analyzed by logistic regression analysis. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results:Univariable analyses revealed the following factors as significantly associated with a shorter overall survival: histological type, pathological stage, stub(+) and vascular...
