Objective: (1)To evaluate quantitatively left atrial spontaneous echo contrast(LASEC) in patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis(RHMS) by integrated backscatter and to study its value in predicting left atrial thromboembolism. (2)To study the correlations between mitral valve area(MVA) and age, left atrial size(LAS), left atrial corrected-integrated backscatter (IBS%), left atrial blood velocity(LABV), ratio of atrial fibrillation(ROAF) and ratio of thrombus(ROTH). (3)To discuss the effect on cardiac function of mitral stenosis with atrial fibrillation. (4)To discuss the effect on cardiac function of mitral stenosis with left atrial thrombus.Materials and Methods: This study consisted of 43 patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis and 20 normal control subjects, totally 63 subjects.(1) 63 subjects were divided into four groups: groupⅠ: 20 normal control subjects (8 male and 12 female, mean age 42.36±2.28 years, range 20 to 68 years); groupⅡ: 11 patients with RHMS and without LASEC (3 male and 8 female, mean age 40.73±13.10 years, range 18 to 59 years); groupⅢ: 14 patients with RHMS and mild-moderated LASEC (5 male and 9 female, mean age 48.50±15.51 years, range 30 to 80 years); groupⅣ: 18 patients with RHMS and severe LASEC (7 male and 11 female, mean age 48.67±12.44 years, range 27 to 69 years); (2) 43 patients with RHMS were divided into three groups according to different mitral valve area: groupⅠ: 16 patients with MVA≤0.7cm2 (5 male and 11 female, mean age 47.81±9.78 years, range 32 to 69 years); groupⅡ: 13 patients with 0.7
