Objective to observe the effect of Ultrasound on apoptosis of K562 cells. Methods human leukemia cell line( K562) cultured in vitro are treated by ultrasound at a frequency of 1.8MHz. Apoptosis cells were evaluated by light and fluorescence microscope and detected using the flow cytometry assay (FCM) . Results The percentage of apoptosis in cells exposure to 8mv × 5min and 8mv × 10min were 1. 1% and 2. 6% respectively, 10mv×5min and 10mv × 10min were 9.7% and 21.6% respectively. The percentage of apoptosis in cells exposure to 7mv×30sec at 1/2h, 1h, 3h, 5h posttreatment were 1. 9%, 3.6%, 5.7% , 7.7% respectively;Typical morphological changes of apoptosis such as apoptotic body were found under light and fluorescence microscope. Conclusion Ultrasound can induce apoptosis in vitro in human leukemia cell line K562.
