| PURPOSE:To compare results of intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide(IVTA) and laser photocoagulation for macular edema.METHODS:A total of 50 eyes in 45 patients with persistent macular edema were enrolled and divided into two groups. Group A included 25 eyes of 23 patients who received 4mg/0.1ml of intravitreal triamcinolone injection. Group B consisted of 25 eyes of 22 patients who received grid macular photocoagulation. Two groups were followed up for 12 months.Best correct visual acuity.Optical coherence tomography(OCT),perimetry, fundus fluorescein angiography(FFA) and intraocular pressure(IOP) were used before and after treatment for comparative analyses in two groups. OCT was performed to measure the neuroepithlial layer thickness of macular fovea. And perimetry was performed by Humphrey II—750 visual field analysis. We used the central 10-2 fast threshold program to examine the change in central 10 degree.RESULTS: Mean improvement in Best correct visual acuity.macular threshold and central 10°mean threshold sensitivity at 1-,3-month examination was significantly higher in Group A when compared with Group B,and mean central macular thickness in Group A was lower than Group B. However, there is significant difference in above-mentioned results between A and B groups at 6-,12-month examinations. At 12 month after the treatment in groups, there is no significant improvement in mean best... |
