Aim: In previous studies, bis(a-furancarboxylato)oxovanadium(IV)(VO-FA) was showed to markedly enhanced the uptake of 2-deoxy-D-[~3H]-glucose and lipogenesis, inhibited lipolysis in isolated rat adipocytes, and exhibited glucose-lowering activity by oral administration in alloxan-diabetic mice and streptozotocin (STZ)-diabetic rats. The present study was carried out to study the effect of VO-FA on glucose and lipid metabolism, as well as associated biochemical parameters in type 2 diabetes rats.Method: Type 2 diabetic rats were induced by high fat and sucrose feeding plus STZ injection (25 mg/kg). VO-FA was administered intragastrically for 4 weeks. During the experiment, the blood glucose, serum insulin, free fatty acid and triglyceride were measured. The body weight of rats was monitored weekly, the water and food consumption were measured daily. At the fourth weekend, all animals were experienced the glucose tolerance test. The hepatic glycogen content, the activity of HK and PK in liver, and the mRNA expression of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase(PEPCK) in liver and kidney were determined at the end of experiment. Moreover, the serum ALT, ASP, ALP, CR and UREA were also assayed.Result: â‘ The type 2 diabetic animal models have been established successfully, which was characterized with hyperglycemi, hyperinsulinemia,...
