Ischemia in the central nervous system is one of causes of neurons damage, which associated with neurodegenerative diseases. In the present study, the effects of resveratrol and pseudoginsenoside-Fu (PF11) on rat cortical neuron damage induced by ischemia were investigated. The results shows that Resveratrol (1, 10 ug/ml) or PF11 (1, 10 μM) remarkably inhibit the decrease of cell viability induced by SNP. Resveratrol and PF11 were shown to attenuate the increase of extracellular NO level induced by SNP. Resveratrol (10 μg/ml) or PF11 (10 μM) significantly decreased the basic content of MDA () in neurons as well as the increase of MDA content induced by SNP. Furthermore, resveratrol or PF11, respectively, increased enzyme activity of SOD, while neither could affect the decreased activity of SOD induced by SNP.There is no effect on cell viability and extracellular NO level when resveratrol or PF11 given alone, but both of them significantly attenuated the decrease of cell viability and the increase of extracellular NO level induced by Glutamate. It was shown that Resveratrol (10 ug/ml) can greatly inhibit the viability decrease caused by H2O2 and FeSO4, while PF11 had no such...
