Background and Objective:Acute Upper Respiratory Infection(AURI) is one of the common diseases in human, especially in children. In China, a child from city suffers from AURI 3-6 times per year ,while a child from country suffers from AURI 2-5 times per year. The patients with serious AURI may suffer a series of syndromes such as tympanitis, nasosinusitis, adenolymphitis," bronchitis and bronchitis, and even die. Therefore, AURI is an inignored disease. Influenza virus is one of the most common pathogens of AURI.Influenza is an acute respiratory disease caused by influenza virus, it onsets suddenly and spreads fast, results in serious harm in people especially in children, the elderly and immunodeficiency patients. Antigen drift, caused by point mutation of influenza virus, results in the seasonal epidemic per year. However, Antigen shift caused by gene reasortment may produce a new subtype strain that results in pandemic because people have no immunity to it. Since high pathogenetic avian influenza virus H5N1 direct infection to human in Hongkong in 1997, up to May 18, 2006, there were 216 such incidents in the world, and 122 of them died. It is highly concerned that avian influenza virus may result in pandemic in the extent of the whole world.Southern China owns a unique ecological environment, climates and geography, where the 1957 "Asian Pandemic" and 1968 "Hongkong Pandemic" burst out. Therefore, southern China is called as world influenza "epicenter". So, the long-termed and systemic surveillance of human influenza virus in south China is necessary for the prevention of influenza and strategy of vaccine inoculation,...
