Objective: To study the role and relationship of MMP-3, MMP-8, P63 in pterygia and to evaluate the clinical significance.Method: 1.The pathological ultrastructure of pterygium was studied by RiLi H-600 transmission electron microscopy in 10 specimens. 2.10 pterygium specimens were collected and the total RNA were extracted and amplified the gene fragments to investigate the role of MMP and TIMP played in pathogenesis of pterygium.3.The expression of MMP-3, MMP-8, P63 was examined by immunohistochemical technique in 50 cases of pterygia and 10 cases of normal conjunctival tissues. The relationship between the expression and clinical-pathological parameters were also analyzed. Result: (1)The positive rate of MMP-3 was 0% in 10 cases of normal tissues and 78% in 50 cases of pterygia, namely 39, the difference between them had markedly statistical significance (P<0.005),the staining intensity of MMP-3 in pterygia was significantly associated with the clinicopathologic stage and recurrence (P<0.05). There was significantly different in the expression of MMP-3 among various occupations, higher outdoors(P<0.05),but no distinct difference was found in other parameters.(2)The expression of MMP-8 was much higher in pterygia than in normal tissues(P<0.005),the positive rate...
