Background and Objective:Mesenchymal stem cells are a subset of the nonhematopoietic cells in bone marrow with the capacity of self-renewal and multilineage differentiation. According to different conditions, mesenchymal stem cells can be expanded and induced, either in vitro or in vivo, to terminally differentiate into osteoblasts, chondrocytes, adipocytes, myotubes, neural cells, and hematopoietic-supporting stroma. Further more, those colon cells also have the potential of differentiation, thus improved mesenchymal stem cells are those cells which have the ability of multi-differentiation. In addition to mesenchymal stem cells in bone marrow, mesenchymal stem cells with the same biological characteristics and surface markers which are in other tissues such as bone, muscle, atrium, ventricle, corium, brain and peripheral blood have been found. Mesenchymal stem cells have different surface markers of stromal cells. The study on mesenchymal stem cells which are expanded from human bone marrow in vitro showed that mesenchymal stem cells express the antigen like SH2, SH3, CD29, CD44, CD77, CD90, CD 106, CD 120a, and CD 124 and so on, but do not express the market antigen in HSC such as CD14, CD34, and CD45. Up to now, there haven't special surface markers to identify mesenchymal stem cells. The clinical studies discovered that the implanting of mesenchymal stem cells together with HSC in allogeneic stem cell transplantation can reduce the failure rate and alleviate the degree of (GVHD) graft versus host disease. But the specific mechanisms are not sure. Some study showed that cell contact by mesenchymal stem cells with T lymphocyte can...
